Work With Us – Medical

Medical training

SVHM ICU has a well established Intensive Care training program for junior doctors at all levels. We aim to assist our junior doctors in meeting their training requirements and goals by tailoring rotations to CICM accredited external hospitals – these include Epworth, Werribee, St Vincent’s Private, Warrnambool and Alice Springs. We also have rotations in Anaesthesia and provide support in securing Paediatric and Trauma positions.  Broader experience and fulfillment of college requirements for Medicine and rural time is therefore readily accessible.
Opportunities exist from a HMO-2 level onwards to join our Critical Care training pathway, either as a dedicated Critical Care or ICU year, or on rotation from other training streams (eg Medicine, Surgery, ED). Junior and Senior ICU registrar training positions are well supported by our comprehensive education program and dedicated Primary and Fellowship Examination preparation, providing excellent results. We are accredited by CICM for Transition Year training. Research is strongly supported with opportunities to complete formal projects and also TTE training.
Medical students from Melbourne University and Notre Dame are welcomed into our ICU and are provided comprehensive bedside and tutorial based teaching.

Mentorship and support

We recognise the challenges and stress of working in a busy tertiary ICU whilst meeting the demands of training. A number of informal and formal processes are in place to ensure that this is a safe, supportive and welcoming workplace.
Our ICU mentorship program will see you paired with a Consultant mentor. You will be encouraged to meet regularly to seek feedback, guidance and support throughout your ICU time.
SVHM also has a Women in Medicine Mentorship program, the ETHOS program, STAR program and a supportive Medical Workforce and Education unit.
