Since its foundation 125 years ago, St Vincent’s has been committed to excellence in healthcare, with an emphasis on serving the poor and vulnerable members of our community. Our ICU leads the way, providing outstanding care for our sickest and most complex patients and a highly regarded training program for the next generation of ICU doctors and nurses.

ICU can be a challenging and stressful environment for patients, family and staff alike. We pride ourselves on being friendly, supportive and inclusive, and going the extra mile to make everyone who comes through our doors feel welcome and important. The care we extend to our patients is also reflected in how we look after each other: you’ll hear many of the team refer to their “ICU family”.
If you don’t believe us, here are some quotes from patients and families that have been with us over the years:

“The St Vincent’s Intensive Care Unit has an excellent reputation within the community.”

“We found the care to be of the highest standard and their approach has been highly professional whilst being caring and respectful. The communication has always been exceptional.”

Cr Paul Antonio (Mayor of Toowoomba Regional Council)

“To all the wonderful caring and dedicated staff in ICU, thank you so much for all you did for our mother in the few days she was with you, Mary Jones. We have never known a hospital where everyone was so kind and professional.”

Bronwyn, Wayne and the Jones family

“My family and I cannot thank you enough for the GREAT care and compassion, not only to our father/husband, but also for the compassion that was shown us. We have nothing but praise for your staff. It was comforting to be around such a caring group of people that felt out pain.”

Liz, Rhonan and Jordan (on behalf of Hayden)

“Words cannot express how truly thankful we are for the tireless work the ICU team have done for Rob and our family. We are blessed to have Angels like you all assisting people at their most vulnerable.”

Robert and Cindy Williams

“From ICU to discharge from the 9th floor, my experience was of complete confidence that each person attending me was exhibiting a dedication that left me overwhelmed. Your care and guidance has granted me a renewed and profound appreciation of medicine and its people.”

Alexander Glass

“Since his arrival we have felt that all staff involved in Dad’s care have been most professional, caring, compassionate and very genuine in delivering him care with the utmost dignity.”

Julie Davies (wife) and children (Phillip, Eric and Susan)

We take work….and play seriously!

Working in ICU can be stressful at times so it is critically important that staff have downtime to relax and rejuvenate. We host regular social events for our staff including Christmas parties and tennis days. We also have wellness sessions and debriefs post difficult scenarios.
